When I was around 14 years old, my parents gave me some sort of cough syrup to combat a terrible chest cold that had been plaguing me. I don’t know if I had ever taken that syrup before without incident, or if that were the first I had ever had it, but shortly after taking it something caught me as funny and I began to laugh.
I remember being on the floor, in front of my Dad’s recliner, and what started out as a chuckle turned into belly laughter. I was laughing so hard that hot tears were rolling down my face.
Have you ever found yourself laughing hysterically over someone else laughing hysterically? My mother-in-law once laughed so hard watching Walter Mathau in “Dennis the Menace” that I nearly peed myself laughing at HER laughing. I can still see her holding her stomach and barely able to get out words, the movie tickled her so much.
That is what happened in my family’s living room as I belly-laughed and couldn’t speak, each person succumbing to the laughter contagion that was in the room. However, funny soon turned to confusion when I realized that I couldn’t STOP laughing, and I then I began to panic when I started to have trouble catching my breath. I remember thinking “this is what it feels like to go insane” and the last thing I can recall from that incident was falling over on the floor, sobbing hysterically.
I guess I didn’t die.
So yes, I have laughed as hard as this baby in the video, but I was also high on cough syrup. Dare you to watch and not crack a smile.
